Teeth Whitening Halifax - Dentist in Halifax

Why do your teeth stain?

Poor oral hygiene can cause discoloured teeth as you are not cleaning your teeth properly. The food we consume such as beets, coffee, tea, wine, and sodas causes staining as they have pigmented residue that even good oral hygiene cannot fix its staining results. Additionally, our teeth will naturally yellow as we age, as well as, both cigarettes and chewing tobacco can contribute to discolored teeth.

What is Teeth Whitening?

Teeth whitening treatment is used if a patient acquires their discoloured teeth to be whiter. Whitening products contain one of two tooth bleaches (hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide). These bleaches break stains into smaller pieces, which makes the color less concentrated and your teeth brighter.

What are my teeth whitening options?

Depending on your case, there are a number of ways to reduce the visibility of teeth stains, such as whitening toothpaste, mouthwash, whitening strips, and mouth trays. However, depending on the severity of your stains, these methods may not be enough to alter the colouration of your smile to your desired results. Most over-the-counter whitening products are only capable of making minor alterations. For people with heavy tooth stains, you may need stronger forms of whitening treatments to give you optimal results.

If you are looking to alter the aesthetic of your mouth, Dr. Daniel Tam offers professional teeth whitening in Halifax. Our teeth whitening treatments come in two forms:

  • In-office teeth whitening: A bleaching gel is placed on your teeth’s front surface and is left on for approximately 15 minutes. A UV light is shone upon the gel which causes a chemical reaction that treats the surface stains. Our dentists repeat this process until they achieve the desired shade.
  • At-home teeth whitening: We can create a whitening kit in our office which includes custom mouth trays and whitening gels. In this process, you will be required to fill the mouth trays with whitening gel and wear them for a short period of time every day. You should notice results after a couple weeks.

Dr. Daniel Tam, your most trusted dentist in Halifax, will examine your teeth to determine the best whitening option for you, all the while offering direct billing to your dental insurance.. Contact us today or set up an appointment online.
